Thank you for having me on the blog today to celebrate my release LUCK OF THE DRAGON and to continue my serial story of how I went off-track trying to purchase an eight-foot tall dragon sculpture.
If you are just joining us, I am detailing my ill-fated quest to buy a sculpture of my favorite muse—a dragon—an eight-foot tall metal dragon.
Where were we…? Oh Yes. I had pshawed my husband’s caution that the metal sculptor in question was an eccentric end-of-the-worlder, and a flagrant coffee-mug sipping alcoholic.

All the way to the artist’s compound, I imagined what the dragon sculpture would look like. Would it have teeth and scales? Would it have wings? I hate it when they are pictured without wings… how could they fly?
I was in muse-filled creative heaven as we drove up the major highway, down a pot-holed county road, and took a left at the dirt road “T.” Finally, we reached a grassed-over rock driveway that had several “Trespassers Will Be Shot” signs hanging next to a crude rusted-out iron sculpture of an anatomically enhanced knight holding a gun.
My husband put his foot on the brake, looked at my determined face, and then turned into the drive. He inched past several more “unusual” knights propped on trees. One which had tractor wheel legs and an exposed ribcage made of re-bar, and an old water pump “head” between his legs.
Classy.
“Where are the dragons?” I unrolled my window and swiveled this-way-and-that in my seat.
“Sorry,” My husband said, and then laughed. “I forgot to grab a visitor’s map.”
He is a Texan, a man of few, usually pithy words. But, despite his sarcasm, he continued to navigate slowly up the washed-out road past an aqua-colored alien thingy with TV antennas and truck-spring arms.
I surveyed the emerging yard, full of life-size monstrous sculptures, and shook my head. This was not the “art” we had come over the river and through the woods to see. I sucked in a disappointed breath, but the overripe summer air was insult to injury, as if I had a crashing headache and the cotton just wouldn’t pull out of the damn Aleve bottle.
Just downright irritating.
We topped the rise, and a single story house came into view. Next to the door, tied to an Oak Tree, with a large shipyard looking chain, were the dragons—three of them.
They were AMAZING.

Question: Do you remember the first time you saw something that you just had to have? What was it? Did it live up to your expectation? I’ll start, I recently ordered a walking treadmill desk to combat writer’s Flat-amous Bottom-amous. Please share in the comments below and thank you for following my new release tour.
All my best,
Susannah Scott

SUSANNAH SCOTT lives in the Missouri Ozarks and is the lone female in a very loud household of males ranging in age from 4 to 40. While she jokes that the extreme levels of testosterone inspired her to write romance, it is really the love of creating an excellent story, and the occasional dreams of twenty-foot dragons, that wake her and send her to the laptop before the chaos of daily life ensues. Susannah loves to hear from her readers. Please visit her website at www.susannahscottbooks.com or follow her as Susannah Scott on Facebook and @Susannah_Scott on Twitter.
So thrilled to be here today!
Hilarious, Susannah! Please, please say you ended up buying the knight with the water pump between his legs! Can’t wait for the next installment.
It was tough to walk away from him, but in the end I just had to say, “NO!” Thanks so much for the comment! Susannah
