The “What If” Game by Natalie Damschroder

What if you were a woman who’d never had a chance to develop her own interests, who took on the interests of the men in your life, but failed to create your own identity?

What if you’d lived through tragedy after tragedy until you said “enough is enough!” and took matters into your own hands?

What if the choices you made put you on a path that intersected with the one man who really saw you, recognized you at a deep level, understood what you needed, and was even willing to help you achieve your goals?

What if those goals, those needs, drove you to do something that would make you unworthy of him in the end?

Which path would you choose?

I had so much fun writing (and rewriting, rewriting, and rewriting) Reese Templeton’s story. She’s a woman who subjugated herself to her husbands (yep, she’s a multi-time widow), but in doing so, gave herself a collection of skills that make her pretty badass. She’s trying to find the man who killed her last husband before the authorities find her responsible for his death. She’s given up on marriage and even romance, determined to go it alone.

But then there’s Griff, the PI she hired to help gather information. He quietly supports her in so many ways she’s never experienced before. But he has a deep-seated integrity that Reese knows isn’t compatible with what she might have to do in the end. Part of her thinks she doesn’t deserve Griff. But he is just not going to let her take this journey alone…

Did you ever start a hobby because someone you cared about loved it, and then you came to love it yourself? (Even if you never had to use those skills for revenge. :) )

About the book:

Marriage is completely over-rated, especially after Reese Templeton’s quadratic failure. She’d rather settle down to a solitary life of owning a bakery—after she tracks down the man responsible for her husband’s death and making her a human tazer full of enough electricity to short out a city block or send a man into cardiac arrest with just one kiss.

But the alluring P.I. Griffin Chase is stirring up those feelings of need again. Only this time, her desire to be in his arms has nothing to do with her fear of loneliness and everything to do with the current charging through her body every time he looks at her…touches her.

Griffin Chase doesn’t need the spark of Reese’s super-human talents to light up his body, the woman does it with one swipe of her tongue across her bottom lip. But in order to catch her late husband’s killer, he must stay on track and catch the man before she has a chance to exact her revenge. Because leading Reese to jail in handcuffs is the last place he wants her.
