“You always keep your promises, don’t you?” I ask over the music.

“Absolutely,” he answers. “And I never make ones I can’t keep.”

I laugh. “Lindsay will be so proud.”

“Only if you have fun,” he says. “You can tell me after.”

I grin, and the music climbs to an exceptionally loud level as we zigzag our way through the throngs of couples grinding against each other, making our way to the middle of the floor. The song transitions to Awolnation’s “Sail” as he finds a clear spot and stops us.

Dash nods to the beat and moves his hips back and forth, pulling me closer with a playful, inviting smile on his lips. I move effortlessly toward him, not even flinching when he wraps a strong arm around my waist. He sways us to the rhythm of the music, and the sweet, drawn-out beat thumps from the speakers and into the floor, vibrating my bones.

He spins me out with a simple flick of his wrist, and I arch my head in a slow circle before he draws me upward, the momentum causing our bodies to go flush. He doesn’t miss a beat, steadying me with his hands on the small of my back. Sparks erupt in a succession of tingles that pop beneath my skin.

“She wasn’t lying,” I say. “You can dance.”

“I’m sure Hail is better than me,” he teases.

The music and my buzz create this super-awesome sense of floating detachment that I cling to as much as I’m clinging to my friend.

I haven’t felt this great in months.

Years, maybe.

Dash twirls me again, and this time I have more grace when he hauls me back. I move in sync with him—his strong lead makes me feel like a willing puppet under his direction. Sheer blissfulness washes over me before a heaping dose of guilt slaps me across the face.

Justin hates to dance. I almost got him into a club once, but he had a classic tantrum and bailed before we even made it to the parking lot. I blow out a breath, forcing myself to stay present, swaying wherever Dash directs me. We’re friends. Hell, Lindsay made him promise to dance with me. This is fine.

And then I realize how close we are.

The heat from his body radiates through my thin tee, my breasts tightening with every graze of his hard chest against mine. My core hums with an aching need, one so strong and so consuming I have to suck in a sharp breath.

Is dancing with him like this crossing a line?

I can’t help or stop the way my body is reacting to him, but it’s not like I’m trying to act on it in any way. I would never do that to Justin. And I’m almost certain Dash isn’t having any of these reactions toward me—he’s just being a good friend.

He grins down at me, moving me so easily to the steady thump of the music, nothing but pure fun in his eyes.

No, this is fine.

More than fine.
