If you’re an author with a cat, or a dog, it can be a humbling experience. My goofy cat, Giz, is far more popular than I am. Every facebook, tweet, or Instagram post featuring him, gets far more likes, loves, laughs, and comments than anything about me. I like to think it’s because he’s more beautiful than I am, but honestly, he’s just a lot more interesting.
If that weren’t humbling enough, Giz also keeps an eye on my writing. It can be so intimidating having him watch as I type. Then, just to make sure I don’t take myself too seriously, he’ll distract me by crawling in my lap. If that doesn’t work, he knocks something off my desk. He definitely knows how to push my buttons.
He even tells me when to get up in the morning and when to go to bed at night! He thinks I should have between 6 and 8 hours sleep. He also insists that I get my exercise and take him for a walk.
So despite what many believe, being a writer is not about working for myself. It’s about working for Giz. It’s a good thing he’s so cuddly, or I would quit and find another job. LOL.
