It was a bucket list trip I’d dreamed about since I was a kid. My excitement was as high as my anxiety—what if the trip was amazing? What if it was awful? What if it was blah? I had no idea what to expect when my husband and I packed up for Jackson Hole Wyoming last March.
Growing up, there was a poster in my grandpa’s garage of a skier at Jackson Hole, even though my grandpa had never gotten to go skiing there, he looked at the poster every day. The idea that I might go someday was a far-fetched no way. Except last winter, my husband and I had a small surplus in the bank account and Jackson Hole ski resort was having a banner year of 400+ inches of snow—we were in the mood for an adventure.
And we definitely got one! Fresh snow every day, so much that our skis were swamped—yes, we fell down a LOT. We rented extra wide powder skis like the locals and managed the steeps and deeps, moguls and couloirs, trees and wide-open bowls, and the cliffs… did I mention the cliffs? Every one of them was marked with a “Caution: Cliff Area” sign, which didn’t mean “don’t go there.” For locals pros it meant “yes, go there.” We got to watch lots of crazy stunts from the chairlift—yikes!
The most lovely part was the little one-room cabin we came home to every day—cozy, warm, so private and quiet. Ah, the life…
We loved the care-free adventurous people, the clean mountain air, and the stunning views. The mountain had plenty of challenges we weren’t able to conquer. We’ll save those for next time. And just so you know, if someday I fall off the map and I’m nowhere to be found, look for me in Jackson Hole.

Robin Lovett enjoys writing romance to avoid the more unsavory things in life, like day jobs, housework, and personal demons. Romance novels have always been her addiction of choice. When not writing with her cat, she’s busy embracing untamable curly hair and adventuring in the outdoors with her husband.
