I thought being an author meant I could be my own boss. I was completely wrong. My boss is my cat, Giz. He’s got me down to a routine and he cracks the whip. In the morning, he wakes me up in time to post my Great Day on Social media, then it’s time to take him for his walk, presumably so I get some fresh air and exercise.
Then I’m allowed to tend to business matters. If I spend too much time researching in my office, he comes in and yells at me to go in the living room to sit in the recliner and start writing. This is where he settles down next to me while I write, supervising my output.
After dinner I must brush him, again a little exercise, then I’m free to work in my office until he determines that I should go to bed. If yelling at me doesn’t work, then walking across the keyboard comes next. As a last resort, he’ll sit on my computer and refuse to budge until I shutdown. He’s a tough taskmaster, but at least he’s a cuddly armful, so it’s not too bad.
