Here’s Diane Alberts for a bit of straight talk.
Have you had any fun fan moments since you became a writer?
Yes, actually! Just yesterday, I brought a paperback copy of one of my books to the local library. I offered to donate it to them, and the librarian asked how I came about it. Well, I’ve not spoken much in public about being an author, since I tend to be pretty quiet, so when I mumbled I was an author, I was pleasantly surprised by her reaction.
She was so excited to meet me, and it was unrealistic in a way. I mean, I’m just me. Right? LOL
Do you usually begin a book with a character or a plot?
Hm. It depends. In this instance, the story started with a character—namely, Rebecca. She was the first to form in my head, and the rest just fell into place shortly thereafter.
Do you have any hobbies or special interests you’d care to share?
I love knitting. My latest kick is knitting shawls that I can wear loosely around my neck. There’s something so calming and satisfying in creating a hand knit, one of a kind, article of clothing out of what used to be a pretty skein of yarn.
What was the inspiration for your book?
I really wanted to have an angel book where the angel was not…angelic. Rebecca tries, she really does, but she is far from the perfect fit to the average mold. She has a horrible temper, talks before thinking more often than not, and has two left feet…or acts like it. She’s clumsy, endearing, and cynical.
And she really, really wanted her story told.
How difficult is it for you to come up with a title for your books?
Oh, sometimes it really, really fights me. But in this instance, the title popped into my head when I was almost done doing the last round of revising. I originally named it The Fallen, but it seemed too common. I was playing around with names in my head…and then bam. There it was.
Who would play your hero/heroine in the tv or film version of your book?
Oh! Rebecca would be a red-headed Scarlett Johansson. She would play the part perfectly! And Tony? I think Ian Somerhalder, from The Vampire Diaries. I’d love to see him be all soft for his little girl, Miranda.
Are you a pantser or a plotter?
Plotting? What’s that? I’ve never heard of it before. ~grins~ In all seriousness, I definitely am a pantser. Though, for the second and third book in the Divine Temptations Trilogy, I am actually outlining! The books all need to tie together nicely, so it’s the one exception to my pantser ways.
Do you prefer print books or eBooks?
I definitely prefer the convenience of eBooks. I love having hundreds of books all in one tiny, little location. No storage needed. But sometimes, I buy a paperback just because I love the cover so much. Like the book Pretty Amy, by Lisa Burstein. I bought that in paper because I just needed that cover.
What’s in the works for you?
I’m currently finishing up the second book in the Divine Temptations Trilogy! It doesn’t have Rebecca and Tony in it…but it does have Sally.
