Today we have part 2 of our author interview!
Sit back and enjoy Obsidian author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s interview with Hushed author Kelley York.

Jennifer:
One of the reasons why I studied Psychology and Criminology in college was because of my fascination with serial killers and their twisted view/take on what is right and what is wrong. Did you do any research while writing Hushed on the different versions of serial killers?
Kelley:
Not directly. I’d taken psychology courses back in college (I was going to major in it, but didn’t finish), so most of my knowledge was leftover from that. The fun thing about psychology is that two people can experience the same or similar trauma, and have completely different reactions to it. No two people are alike.
Jennifer:
What was the hardest part about Archer and his relationship with Vivian and Evan?
Kelley:
It killed me how much of a beaten puppy Archer was to Viv, and I wanted to shake him a lot of the time. But it’s realistic, and I know, because I’ve seen it happen many times. The guy or girl who keeps going back to the one they love no matter how bad that person is for them (even when they realize how unhealthy it is!). Archer’s relationship with Evan was easy. The push and pull of it moved slow and natural, and nothing ever felt forced.
Jennifer:
Like most readers, after finishing Hushed, I’m still trying to wrap my brain around everything….in a good way. Did you always plan the sequence of events leading up to the ending? Or was it fly by the seat of the pants sort of thing?
Kelley:
Haha, seat of my pants all the way. Around halfway through the book, I realized I had all these little loose plot threads I needed to tie up in the second half. I made note of them and tried to etch out (at least in my head) what I wanted to do and where the story needed to go. I honestly had no idea how I was going to end it all up until those last few chapters.
Jennifer:
So you have an abundance of pets. Exactly how many pets do you have?
Kelley:
Lots. And I’m willing to bet by the time this is posted, I’ll likely have more. Sigh. Currently, we have hamsters (Hope and Exquisite), cats (Irish, Quinn, and Noel), rats (Grimmy, Gin, and Noah), and a bunny (Pattie). I’m a sucker for animals, and they’re all incredibly spoiled. Pattie is the newest addition and she’s a dwarf lions head rabbit. All white, with these itty-bitty black ears, and this thick black “eyeliner” around her blue eyes.
Jennifer:
What are you working on now?
Kelley:
It’s a secret! ;) I’ll say it’s another LGBT-themed novel, but probably not as thriller-esque as HUSHED.
